My idea of camping.....is hooking up to 50 amp service, running my AC and MAYBE parking on a dirt road. Thus when Keyhole State Park put in electric/water hookups we were right there saying save us a spot. None of us had been to the new park so we went by the seat of our pants. Not a bad job. We had one spot in a circle where three+ could camp in a group setting. After we got set up we thought maybe we should have turned around and let our door be toward the circle. NOPE!! We soon learned that we used the awning side during the morning and gradually moved everything around to the other side by afternoon. The 6 of us went out a day early with Travis bringing the boat out Friday night. The first night was the night it rained and helped all the firefighters with the fires. Lots of rain! This is the second storm the kids' tent has been through and it is always dry. They did a good job of researching it. Since this was a boating camping trip I didn't take the camera on the boat. They bought the boat last fall and haven't had it out that much.
Notice the round head in the tree??? |
Travis is good about going slow with Whitney and one of the kids on the tubes but it was time for him to have some fun. She bought him a tube and I told him I'd never been accused of going to wild and fast when driving a boat and I would be happy to drive for him (heh, heh, heh!)
But first before he got there the boys met me as I came out the bus dorr with, "Grams! Grams! Baby Juju's stuck in a tree! Hurray! Hurray!" So out I bolted (Whit and Ken were grinning to themselves. They'd chosen to let Juju learn a lesson and stay in the tree!) I really didn't know who Juju was but didn't want the poor kid/dog/cat to suffer. Riiigggghhhhhttt!
Yes - I'll rescue Juju. Juju is a bedraggled cabbage patch doll. I learned my lesson. :)
It's been years so we went exploring that first day. There are 3 playgrounds scattered throughout the park. Each one is a little different.
This one has a mountain to climb in addition to swings, slides and a climbing wall.
Higher Grandad, higher!! |
Don't drop me Grams! |
Just hanging out in the bus. He thinks he 's found a great new toy.
When you go camping with these boys you are up early. Yup playing in the "closet" at 5:30 a.m.
Where's breakfast Grams???
Ken's pain level has been escalating the last couple of years so he didn't get to go on the boat. he was quit content staying in camp cooking supper on the grill from time to time. He's even been doing some of that negative thinking. Not good!
Well I took Trav on a few rides. The first day I was getting used to the boat; but the second day I let it rip. Dumped him a couple of times. However I did ruffle Ethan's feathers. I wasn't going too fast but Dad and Eth biffed in the water. Ethan is SURE he is DONE with the tubes. I want to document this here so I can say, "Read it and weep boy, that's what you said."
All in all it was a great camping trip - 50 amp service, AC, Movies on the tube during the rain - had it all!
