Arrived in one peice at Elk Hollar. I should get down and kiss the ground!!

Arrived at Elk Hollar (not found on maps) in the early afternoon.  We wriggled and wriggled and got both of us settled.

I'd made a GC stew the night before so noone would have to cook today and we then settled into the living room to watch whatever show was coming out the big picture window.

 Yup. Elk.

Wait.  What's going on?

One of the cows took exception to three deer that were crossing the pasture and began to give chase.  Who will win??

Well I think it's: Elk 1 and Deer 0

She chased them to the other side of the pump house and they went out of sight.............

She is SO proud as she comes back to the salt block.

Wait!  They're back...........but not attempting to go near the salfblock.

With them "under control" she resumes having dessert.

And after they left - more came up to chowdown.

Wes said that Elk don't usually go into the front "yard", but when I staggered out of bed about 5:30 the next morning here is what I saw:

That's how it got its name: Elk Hollar!

Well and a few deer and a couple of cranes.

What will tomorrow bring.

At Hells Canyon & I Didn't Kill Us Thank God!!!

We left about 9 to head down into Hells Canyon on a road I've been on many times; but simply couldn't remember.  Yup!  I turned the trailer brakes up a notch too high and burned them out.  Spit! Spit! Spit!  And I did remember going off Halfway Hill.  Please Lord be with us tomorrow.
Deb has all the pictures that are to be had for the trip to Osbow.  These are pictures of Hells Canyon, Oxbow (Lilacs blooming!) & Homestead.  We went clear to the end of the road on the Oregon side to the trailhead and D/D/L/S were off!

Ahhh the puppies have found the water, although it was too steep for D/D.

Still a long way away on the trail.  The trail is one Ken helped build back in the day.  Find Dave and a dog.

We all finally decided that Babe and the 5th could get through this tunnel - but we aren't going to try it.  Where would they turn around?

Now, this, is a grade.  It's the Kleinschmidt Grade and hasn't changed much since the vehicles were way narrower.   NOT going up this.  :)

There in a crack in the hills sits a house and to the left up higher is the garden.
I guess they have all they need: fish, game; vegetables; water AND gushing water in the spring......maybe.  Not for me, thanks.
I walked around the trailhead while they were gone.  The tenter/packer has himself a nice setup there in the lush grass.

Tiny, tiny purple flowers cover the ground in Hells Canyon.  No name - remember I'm the one that kills green stuff.
The Idaho Power RV Park we stayed at.  It was built back when a luzurious RV was only 26' long.  :)
There were many beautiful Lilacs which made it smell so nice.

Hmmm Brenda told us about yellow Lilacs - need to Google that.  Deb and I've never heard of that color.

Mundo and Council

Well spit!  The ram seems to be married to the sign.  Anyway - Mundo, Idaho has an rv park, old barns, an exotic ram and a big hot tub.  Dave/Deb found this by accident.  We had another issue with the MH so we weren't sure we'd catch them in ID.  But we did.  Had to look the sheep up on the internet.  Here's the information: 4 Horned Sheep

I fought those pictures and their arrangement long enough!!!

The dogs had a good time - and the ticks LOVED them.  They had so many I think the darn things were falling out of the trees.
a few weeks ago this area was flooded with spring runoff.  But my is it beautiful now.

Boohoo.  They close the tub for cleaning on Mondays and Tuesdays so I just got a peek at it.  Nice.

This was interesting.  I don't believe I've ever seen a garbology as a college elective but here is a certified one.

Yeah, it was a back in site.  Sooo I'm still thinking we may want to keep this car hauler trailer going.  Right now the score is 1 to keep it 0 to sell it.  Time will tell.

Dave cleaned out the Jeep and we loaded up to go see George and Joan Wilson more NM snowbirds.  It is a beautiful spot.  Want to buy it?  It will soon be up for sale.  They reached that time in their life that it is time to just be in one place.  I know they are sad to do this.

Joan with the most scrumptious pizzas from a Council taken'bake pizzeria.

Deb and I have decided over the past few days that we are headed to CostCo when we get to Wallowa - or that W town as Deb refers to it.

These cattail lights come from - yup - CostCo.
From about 300 pictures I got one I kind of like.  Joan told us the hummingbirds had been back about a week.

Joan, the fire alarm is going off.

Wiley perching on Dad's lap.  Yikes he said there are 4 of them big dogs.

Wiley and Sarah wait (not) patiently on the porch outside the kitchen sink.

They do have some garden that is planted - I wonder if they sell quickly if they'll reap the harvest so to speak?

It was a great visit, but now we need to go back to Mundo.  Wonder if we can find our way?
