Touring Elephant Butte Lake

Park Hosts Cheryl and Rick invited a group of us to tour the Lake on their pontoon boat.  Kara/Leo, Wyn/Ki and us took them up on it.  The first picture doesn't look too bad - then you see the next picture.
Notice where the cars are parked?  They had to build a new "walking" trail in a zigzag fashion to the Marina.

One of the MANY house boats on the Lake.

A look back over the Main Entrance Marina.

The green WAS underwater in the spring.

The 'Elephant' all sad and naked.

??? A cousin of the loons???  However I'm told they don't make looney sounds.  Actually I thought I looney sounds!!

Thanks Captain Rick for the ride!

Leo and Wyn gathering seashells on the beach.

The dam.

This is looking at the Dam Marina.  As they have shut off water outgo it is UP from the lowest point a couple of weeks ago.

Poor naked elephant.

A boat that sunk in the '40's is way above the waterline now.
The Dam Marina where no boats are launched now.
This houseboat is for sale.  $7500 for all THREE boats.  Sounds reasonable.
 Cute, cute.
Wait a minute.........one, two, three, uhhhh FOUR!!  Hmmmm. Which three boats are for sale.
Rattlesnack Island has a regular highway to it.
Yes, they STILL get stuck out there.

                               Kettletop!
Rock Canyon marina.  You have to go around the launchpad into the sand; but you can still launch here.
THIS is Rock Canyon - last year this is where ALL the houseboats and Marina were.

Rock Island Marina is no longer in a protected inlet.

Hey Dude!!  Nice legs.

One of the rock formations that is uncovered.

Then in another inlet is the floating hambuger stand.
Nice idea.

or maybe............

Yeah!  Let us have 12 Beach Burgers!!!

Chugging back to the dock.  Great day, wading, eating, having Pork Chops and lots of laughter!

The end of a Good Day in New Mexico!
