How Long Does It Take To Try a New Recipe??

When we first arrived Sharon began to tell me about a Uzbekistan (phonetic) recipe her sister's son's girlfriend's family made. It was called Somosas.  She wanted to put us on the alert for a pound of Ground Mutton and for Pepperidge Farm puff pastry.  Then Wyn/Ki showed up and she was put on point.  THAT was in early September.  We searched wherever we went (which wasn't much) and managed to find the PF pastry.  We were slowly sneaking up on all the ingredients.   Linda/Newell got here and the hunt was now for TWO pounds.  And when Dave/Deb arrived the count went to THREE pounds. This was October and Sharon didn't want to try it on everyone; but decided that us 8 were expendable.  JUST KIDDING!! :) If we survived the initial making possibly we would make a larger batch for all.  (Sorry Sharon - I Love You!!)

So on a foray out to get - what else - Monk's cloth in Socorro we found 1# at Smith's.  With the pound Wyn had in her freezer we were elated.  Of course Smith's wouldn't be getting anymore before we left but we were looking good so far.  This was in early NOVEMBER.  With Sharon's arm surgery looming ever closer she was DONE with this project.  I decided to attempt another foray in Las Cruces.  The next time we went down I found many, many pounds of it at Albertson's!!  This was NOVEMBER 30th!  Thus we gathered at the clubhouse to try the new recipe - keeping a somewhat low profile on the meat we were using. The day was

DECEMBER 1st.
See the worker bees gathered around ready to do what we were told by Sharon.  Notice the glint in the eye of Debbie??  She NEVER likes to do what she's told.

Wait!  This picture is a better shot. See that
"Oh Hell - this'll take too long-I used to feed 2500 several meals a day-let'me show you a shortcut" on her face?
And THEN notice the "Damnit they're SUPPOSED to be ROUND Debbie!! Not like a bunch of rectangle boxes - they won't bake uniformly". You are NOT helping next time!. muttered Sharon.
Which was, in reality, what Deb wanted....."Isn't THAT special?"

Meanwhile Linda and Deb were heard muttering things like ("Mac and Jaz (their Labs) wouldn't go inside the camper once when Wyoming George gave us a leg of lamb and it wasn't even cooked.")  (by Deb)  This even as she DIDN'T do what she was told.

"I don't know - Newell isn't into mutton that much.  He has a few horror stories......but I'm sure he'll try them - I think" (by Linda)  All the while DOING what she was told.

Meanwhile I'm thinking that the Wyoming battle at Wagon Box was all about the beef raisers trying to erase the sheep raisers. (But hey, I'm keeping MY mouth shut.) Surprised aren't ya?

Wyn kept saying, "Well the ones I had were from India and they were good. (I don't know- is Uzbekistan anywhere NEAR India?  Beats me.

Anyway we all had a job to do and of course they didn't cook uniformly (thanks a LOT Debbie) but we ended up with three+ apiece to try at dinner.  Newell had put a pot of venison stew on; I bought some bread and Wyn did a great salad so we wouldn't starve if the recipe was a bust.

Poor Sharon!  I wonder what she told her sister's son's girlfriend's family about the experience?  Here she is wearing a pair of readers and resting up before dinner time. I dare you to come up with a caption for THAT look!

I am HAPPY to report that we are ALL still alive and kicking over a week later.  Comments such as "Wow!  Those are good!" and "You can make this recipe any time you want".  were heard as we cleaned up our dishes and went home to unbutton our jeans and let it............well you know.  Many of us have acid reflux. - - - -That works just as well as "I have over-active/under active thyroid" does for the weight thing.

The answer to the first question is  81 (Eight-one) days.

Hmmm wonder what's next on the Fun Pig list?  Can't wait to find out.
